Breakfast Meeting: Equal and Inclusive Representation of Women in Decision-Making

April 21, 2023

The Breakfast meeting on Equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making systems: a discussion on the forthcoming CEDAW´s general recommendation held on 21 April 2023 at the OSCE Documentation Centre in Prague, Czech Republic, brought together gathers experts from academia, international organizations, civil society and governments to address key challenges faced by women in decision-making system.

The meeting was organized by the OSCE Documentation Centre in Prague, the Institute of International Relations in Prague and the World Trade Institute of the University of Bern.

The meeting reflected on how to ensure full compliance by states with their obligations to respect, protect and fulfil women’s human right to equal and inclusive representation in decision-making systems, with a special emphasis on Article 7 and Article 8 of the CEDAW Convention. The preparation of the forthcoming recommendation by the CEDAW Committee raises a number of questions regarding not only the current implementation of the above mentioned articles, but also on the regulatory gaps that still exists when it comes to ensure equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making systems at both the national and international levels.
